Doctors are growing a new nose for a 22-year old Chinese man on his forehead.

The man, named Xiaolian, is undergoing the unusual procedure after his nose was left deformed following a traffic accident. When the cartilage in his nose was damaged due to an infection, doctors shaped a new nose from cartilage taken from the man’s ribs and implanted it in his forehead.
Though the placement of the new nose seems unusual, it has been explained that may be a strategic positioning, allowing the new nose to be rotated into position when it is ready.
