When Mr. Alifi heard a loud noise around midnight on February 13, 2006, he went to investigate. What he found led to a bizarre series of events.
The man went out to discover a strange man, Mr. Tombe, having relations with his goat. Mr. Alifi captured Mr. Tombe and called on a council of elders for guidance.
The council decided that Mr. Tombe had used the goat as a “wife” and required him to pay Mr. Alifi a dowry of 15,000 Sudanese dollars, or about $50 US.
As the BBC reported:
“They said I should not take him to the police, but rather let him pay a dowry for my goat because he used it as his wife,” Mr Alifi told the newspaper.
