There are currently only 6 people left in the world who were born in the 1800’s. 5 were born in 1899 and one was born in 1898.
The current oldest person in the world is Misao Okawa, who celebrated her 115th birthday in March 2013. She is the last person alive who was born in 1898.
Of those individuals alive who were born in the 1800’s, four are from the United States, one is from Italy, one is from England, and one (Ms. Okawa) is from Japan.
The Gerontology Research Group tracks supercentenarians – those 110 years old or older. Their validated list includes 55 individuals, 53 of which are female.
