Amazon is testing unmanned drones which may one day deliver goods to its customers within 30 minutes of placing orders.
Amazon calls these drones “Octocopters” which can carry up to 5 pounds in what will be called their “Prime Air” service.
The FAA has not yet approved the use of drones for civilian purposes, but that restriction may be lifted in the next few years.
As the BBC reported:
Amazon said “from a technology point of view, we’ll be ready to enter commercial operations as soon as the necessary regulations are in place… One day, Prime Air vehicles will be as normal as seeing mail trucks on the road today.”
