In 1985, a Coca-Cola employee was fired for her engagement to a Pepsi employee.

Amanda Blake of Northampton, Massachusetts had worked for Coke for 8 years when her employer discovered that she was engaged to David Cronin, who had previously worked for Coke and had left to work for Pepsi.
Blake was given three choices by her employer: break off the engagement, persuade him to quit his job at Pepsi, or quit her position at Coke. When she refused, she was fired for a “conflict of interest.”
A $600,000 lawsuit was filed, and a “satisfactory” settlement was reached in 1987. The couple were later married.
