A 2013 study revealed that single men only washed their bed sheets about 4 times per year, as opposed to single women, who washed their sheets about every two weeks.
A UK survey found that younger men “didn’t need” to change their sheets, or simply “didn’t care” to do so.
Married couples were found to change their sheets about every 2.3 weeks, and the wives were the sheet-changers in 81% of those cases.
Those between the ages of 35 and 50 were most likely to change their sheets regularly.
As MSN NZ reports:
Dr Maree Barnes, from the Sleep Health Foundation, said dirty sheets are unlikely to impact your sleep quality if you’re not particularly fussed about personal hygiene.
“Everybody has different needs for getting a good night’s sleep,” she said.
“For some people it’s important to change their sheets often and have high thread count sheets. It would impact on my sleep because I don’t like smelly uncomfortable sheets, but I don’t know that young men really care or notice it.”
