Surprising studies have shown that girls commit dating violence about as often as boys.
Psychology professors as the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign studied 625 students over a 4-year period. They found that 43 percent of girls, and only 28 percent of boys, committed an act of physical violence. More boys than girls committed sexual violence.
One in three students claimed to be victims of some sort of dating violence.
Campus Safety pointed out:
It should be noted that the researchers involved in the studies stressed that male-perpetrated violence is more likely to cause severe physical injuries, compared to acts perpetrated by females.
Family support was found to be very effective in decreasing all types of violence.
