Claim: “AOL still brings in $600 million a year from dial up Internet subscriptions.”
Is this fact or fake, and where is the source for this information?
It’s fact, though it’s closer to $500 million than $600 million.
According to Business Insider, AOL’s profits in 2012 still accounted for the “vast majority” of its profits. Regarding the $600 million figure claimed, Business Insider stated:
This shrinking business still throws off an amazing amount of cash–about $500 million a year–that AOL can use and is using to invest in other cool businesses (content and an ad network).
So it’s closer to $500 million, but it’s still a surprising number for dial-up internet subscriptions.
